No room for error for TJ with 1.5x points up for grabs at BRC
With 6 wins and 2 podium finishes so far, Timothy Joseph “TJ” Alberto and Access Plus Racing holds onto a strong 24-point lead in the Philippine Superbike Championship (PSBK). But the 3-time champion cannot put a foot wrong if he wants to secure a 4th consecutive title, especially with 1.5x points up for grabs this weekend at the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC).
The team has been on a roll in 2024. Running the latest-spec Ducati Panigale V4, Alberto has secured race win after race win – with a very memorable victory at CIS in the wet last month. Although the 3.700 km track down south is not their strong point, results from recent tests have been very promising. Add to the fact that his younger brother Troy Alberto was able to set a new track record in Round 2 is proof that the Ducati is still the bike to beat in the PSBK.
However, the weekend will not be a walk in the park for Access Plus Racing. TJ Alberto’s title rivals are also expected to bring updates for the penultimate round with hopes closing the points gap. Weather conditions will be hard to predict as well, which adds to challenge.
Troy Alberto, on the hand, is on the road to recovery and closer to getting back to full health. However, the doctors has yet to give him the green light to return to racing and will have to sit out this round yet again.
TJ Alberto and his #77 Ducati Panigale V4 will fly the team’s colors solo at the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC) this weekend. Qualifying takes place on Saturday (September 7) with both Races happening on Sunday (September 8).
TJ Alberto, #77:
“I’m looking to keep the momentum we’ve gained over the last 2 successful races ’til the end of the season. The next 2 rounds will have a 1.5x points multiplier so it’s going to be important not to drop the ball. I’ve been extremely motivated to improve in BRC which is a track where we haven’t been so consistent on. I’ve shown some really good lap times in testing but we’ll have to see how the race goes given the weather this weekend.”
